Darren Eng - Founder/President
A scientist-at-heart
and by training, Mr. Eng founded The Sponsorship Group in 2000 to enable him to put his newly
discovered skills in profession networking to work on behalf of his clients. Previously as Executive
Vice President for the Virtual International Community (aka Venice Interactive Community)
or more popularly “VIC”, Darren helped build VIC into the largest professional association on the
west coast for technology professionals - boasting a community of 10,000 with hundreds of sponsors
including Intel, Microsoft, Loeb & Loeb, Sun Microsystems, Fox, Disney, United Way, to name a few.
Now almost a decade later, The Sponsorship Group offers three lines of services which Darren
developed to provide clients the greatest event experiences possible. He has co-produced or
directed nearly 20 midsized single day conferences (from 350 to 2,000 attendees each) and consulted
to the likes of Billboard and Hollywood Reporter. On a regular basis TSG produces an average of
four small (from 35 to 300 attendees) corporate events per month as part of annual contracts for
Association Management. And, TSG has represented or negotiated well over a million dollars in sponsorships.
All clients of TSG benefit from Darren’s unique scientifically creative 3E perspective
(Enhanced Event Experience) which he and his staff apply to every aspect of service from marketing,
to registration process, to new sponsorships and creative new program models,
and to other interactive marketing ideas.
Prior to coming to California, Mr. Eng founded and ran DBEnvironmental, providing environmental
consulting to Fortune 500 corporations and health & safety training (known as “OSHA 40-hour HAZMAT
training”) to thousands of workers in the NY/NJ/PA tristate area. DBE capped a six year career in
environmental consulting, project management and litigation support, with various positions in
international corporations all now subsidiaries of AECOM.
Mr. Eng is a graduate of Yale University, with a B.S. in Environmental Biology.
